Understanding Substance Use

Substance use isn’t always about the substance itself—it’s often about what the substance helps numb, quiet, or escape. You may have started using to manage anxiety, trauma, burnout, or emotional pain, only to find yourself stuck in a cycle that’s hard to break. Whether you’re trying to cut back, maintain sobriety, or simply understand your relationship with substances, you’re not alone—and you don’t need to do it perfectly to start healing.

  • “I don’t know how I got here—but I know I want something to change.”

If that feels true for you, you’re in the right place.

How I Help

My work with substance use is grounded in empathy, lived experience, and clinical training in both psychiatric and addiction care. I offer judgment-free support for adults facing substance use alongside mood disorders like anxiety, depression, or PTSD—also known as dual diagnosis. Together, we’ll look at what’s driving the behavior and what supports your long-term stability, whether that includes therapy, medication, harm reduction, or sobriety support.

We’ll build a care plan that works with your real life—not against it—so you can begin to move forward with greater clarity and confidence. If appropriate, I may also recommend medications that help reduce cravings, manage withdrawal symptoms, or support mood regulation.

  • Recovery isn’t linear—and you don’t have to go it alone.

My approach meets you with honesty, flexibility, and respect for your unique goals.

What You Can Expect

Substance use recovery looks different for everyone. My role is to help you define what healing means for you—and to walk with you as you work toward it. With time and support, you may:

  • Understand the emotional patterns behind your use
  • Reduce cravings and improve emotional regulation
  • Reconnect with your values and priorities
  • Build healthier coping strategies
  • Strengthen your ability to manage co-occurring conditions like depression, anxiety, or trauma

Whether you’re early in your recovery or have tried before, we’ll take it one step at a time—together. I offer online sessions with flexible scheduling, and in-person services are coming soon in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
